The Golden Mile, Costa del Sol

01

The Golden Mile

The most luxurious and prestigious residential area in Marbella — the beach is your neighbour. High-end tourism started here in 1954 when Prince Alfonso opened the Marbella Club Hotel, and celebrities and royalty have visited ever since. The Golden Mile still showcases the distinguished qualities that defined Marbella.

Puerto Banús & Nueva Andalucía, Costa del Sol

03

Puerto Banús & Nueva Andalucía

Two neighbouring worlds sharing a postcode. Puerto Banús is the marina Marbella is internationally known for — super-yachts, headline restaurants and the coast's most concentrated evening scene, with beachfront apartments and penthouses immediately behind. Step inland and Nueva Andalucía takes over: a quieter Golf Valley spread across Las Brisas, Los Naranjos, Aloha and La Cerquilla, framed by La Concha. Most buyers we work with end up considering both.

San Pedro & Guadalmina, Costa del Sol

05

San Pedro & Guadalmina

San Pedro de Alcántara and Guadalmina sit side by side along Marbella's western edge — a working Andalusian town and one of the coast's oldest gated communities, joined by a single coastal road. San Pedro brings a walkable centre, schools and everyday services; Guadalmina Alta and Baja bring mature villa streets, front-line golf and beachside enclaves. Together they cover most of the price ladder between the New Golden Mile and Marbella's Golden Mile.

How we narrow it down

The right area is the one that fits your week.

We start with how you'd spend a typical seven days here — school runs, golf tee-times, after-dinner walks, beach mornings — and let that shape the map.

  • Schools — Aloha, Swans, Laude, BSM, EIC catchments
  • Walkability — restaurants, beach, marina on foot
  • Travel time — Málaga airport, Gibraltar airport, Tarifa
  • Rental yield — short-let, long-let, seasonal demand
  • Privacy — gated estates, security patrols, single-villa plots
  • Resale demand — depth of buyer market at your price point

FAQ

Choosing an area — common questions.

Which Marbella area is best for families?

Nueva Andalucía is the most established family choice — walkable to Puerto Banús, surrounded by golf, and within catchment of Aloha College, Swans and Laude. Guadalmina Baja is the quieter alternative, with mature villa streets between the beach and the Atalaya schools.

Which areas have the best rental yields?

Estepona and the New Golden Mile lead on yield thanks to new-build stock, lock-up-and-leave apartments, and steady short-let demand. Nueva Andalucía also performs strongly for seasonal lets given its proximity to Puerto Banús.

Where can I walk to the beach and restaurants?

The Golden Mile puts you steps from the sand and the Marbella Club and Puente Romano paseo. Guadalmina Baja offers beachside villas within a short walk of the beach clubs, and Estepona's marina and old town are entirely walkable.

Which areas are most private and secure?

Sierra Blanca and Benahavís — particularly La Zagaleta — are the most private, with gated entrances, 24-hour patrols and single-villa plots. Sotogrande's inland estates offer similar seclusion on a larger, country-estate scale.

How far is each area from Málaga airport?

Golden Mile, Sierra Blanca and Nueva Andalucía sit around 45–50 minutes from Málaga airport. Benahavís, Guadalmina Baja and Estepona are 50–55 minutes, and Sotogrande is around 75 minutes — though Gibraltar airport is only 20 minutes away.
